  2. Templates are your biggest time saver and your easiest way to standardize. You already probably use templates and don't even realize it. When I started my blogs I did a lot of search and research on this and collected a big list of good sites (more than 250 sites) that offer decent unique free blog templates. If you are interested take a look at the below link.

  6. Hi Reynald, please request Smashing Mag peeps, I'm sure they'll make the PSD available if possible.

  7. I've read through some of your tutorials and I think you understand the blogger system better than I do. I'm wondering if you could impart some advice on how create your own blogging template from scratch and give me some tips on how to learn and then implement the Blogger mark-up language. I'd be grateful for just about any replay. Thank you.

  8. @ Mosh, I'd suggest you to first of all study some good designs at any CSS blogs showcase and then sketch a very abstract view of what you want to achieve on any simple image editor like Microsoft Paint. You can send me that sketch and I'll try to help you out from there on. For me, a good design is the one which loads very fast, has no or some images, no or a little JavaScript and compatible with old browsers like Internet Explorer 6.

  9. Bilal, thanks for replying so soon. I've already created a mock-up of what I want to achieve and have written up the CSS and HTML already. It's a really simple web design but I'm too scared to modify an existing template for it to work because of all the different labels.

    I'd like to send you my files so you can take a look and assess it. I think pasting it here's not a good idea - it's too long. What do you think?

  11. I'm having problems uploading paper wall on my blog. It loads just fine, but the little date tabs on the side say "undefined" and I can't get the date to post. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks, Liz

  12. @ Ninny, most of the Blogger templates are converted from Wordpress like this one. So, anyone can convert a template in his/her own style. You're not using my conversion because I've properly handled the date issue as you can see in the demo. So, please download the template from here and use it.

  14. Hi Bilal,
    the font size is a little small and I can't seem to locate the block of CSS that dictates the body font size. Is there any way to increase that a bit?

  15. @ BP, go to "Edit HTML" and find this piece of code:

    body {
    font-size:12px;
    font-family:Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
    background:url(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wa6zL1GRiOs/SlhX5sbquWI/AAAAAAAADUw/8JOPki4m_a0/top_bg.jpg) no-repeat center top;
    color: #825a2d;
    padding:0px;
    margin:0px auto auto auto;
    }

    just change the value 12px (font-size:12px;) to some higher value like 15px (font-size:15px;). Click "Preview" button to see the changes you've made and then "Save" if you're satisfied.

  16. Thanks! One other question, when you search, newer posts and the Home link seem to appear off the page a bit, is there a place where you can modify that or is that a limitation of blogspot?

  17. @ BP, just checked your blog! I think there's no "Older or Newer Posts" buttons on your main page, maybe there are not too many posts!

  18. Hello Bilal, I wrote you a question a while ago and I was just wondering if you forgot me. I would really love to use the template!
    And I have one other question: my organization has this french blog (that I've never heard of before) and I was wondering if I could use the templates for that one, too?! It really needs some work, heres the link: http://ujec-cipcre.over-blog.com/
    Thank you!

  20. I tried to upload your template (both) and blogger said "We were unable to save your template

    Please correct the error below, and submit your template again.
    Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
    XML error message: Content is not allowed in prolog."

    I'm a major newbie, can you help me please?

  21. @ Alison, when you download the template it is a .zip file. you need to extract a .xml file out of it by using some compression software like 7-Zip.

    Once, you've got the .xml file then you can go to Layout then Edit HTML and upload a template from a .xml file on your hard drive by clicking Browse then Upload.
